Committees on Diversity
The Committees on Diversity consists of a broad range of faculty, staff, and student members who work in collaboration to support and promote intellectual, cultural, and social pluralism at Reed. As an advisory group, we are responsible for monitoring the programs and policies adopted by the college in pursuing its commitment to diversity. We also present recommendations to the faculty, its elected committees, and the administrative units of the college with the intention of facilitating and guaranteeing the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students from under-represented ethnic and racial groups. With a goal of providing institutional cohesion and consistency regarding diversity and inclusion initiatives, we foster communication among the Reed community. We work closely with our newly formed counterpart in the student body to further promote shared values of mutual understanding and collaboration around intellectual pluralism, diversity, and inclusion.
Staff & Faculty Committee
Regular activity for the Staff Committee on Diversity, and the Faculty Committee on Diversity is on a temporary pause for the Fall 2024 semester. During this time, Phyllis Esposito (Vice-President & Dean for Institutional Diversity), Kelly Chacón (Faculty Committee on Diversity Chair) and Val Moreno (Staff Committee on Diversity Chair) will convene bi-monthly throughout the semester to discuss opportunities to strengthen the foundational work of our committees to better align with the college's strategic plan and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) priorities. This opportunity enables us to create a unified, comprehensive approach to DEI, fostering an environment where students, faculty, and staff can belong, thrive, and flourish.
